Birmingham House

The new proposed extension and refurbishment will provide the Business School with an additional 140-150 academic and professional services office space, as well as a number of high-quality meeting rooms and social spaces for staff, the majority of which are proposed as single person academic offices. This will allow the School to consolidate all of its non-teaching activity on one site, thus maximising operational efficiencies in terms of how it uses its estate whilst placing and re-establishing University House as the heart and focus of the School.

T3 were appointed to carry out the design and detailing of the multi-storey new teaching block comprising of traditionally reinforced slabs, beams, columns and walls together with very large spanning prestressed slabs. Hidden connectors and bare concrete finishes to all internal walls and columns were the choice of the Architect and presented their own difficulties. By using BIM modelling software Tekla, T3 were able to visualise all elements, connections, clash free reinforcement with embedded items such as lifters and ultimately provide our client with a complete fully integrated BIM model.

T3 produced over 500 No. manufacture drawings providing over 700 No. pieces of concrete to site.

MAJOR T3UK SOUTH WEST EXPANSION PLANNED

STRUCTURAL Detailing and Precast Design Consultancy T3UK is celebrating a successful first full year of trading by opening an office in Bristol.

The company, which is currently based in Barnsley and Retford, was launched by Andy Adams and Nathan Bradford, business partners with more than 20 years combined in the construction industry.

Their aim was to provide a specialist structural detailing and BIM consultancy that was independent of design or construction teams, providing integrated design, detailing and building information modelling to a wide variety of clients across the industry.

By focusing on clients goals and using the latest technology T3UK are able to significantly speed up the project lifecycle, reducing cost and improving the efficiency of the design and build process minimising risk and waste.

In just over 12 months the team has grown from three people to 13 and now T3UK is expanding with the launch of a Bristol office that will specifically meet growing demand for its services in the south west.

“T3UK utilises the latest software to deliver all our projects including Revit, Tekla Structures & CADS RC,” director Andy Adams explained.

“We work with a variety of clients nationally across all sectors including architects, consulting engineers, main contractors and specialist sub-contractors.

“But as our workload has increased we have identified a need to expand into new areas, hence our decision to open a new base in Bristol.”

At the same time, the company has also been developing T3 Training and Development, its hugely successful Barnsley based operation.

“We are heavily invested in developing young talent and 25 per cent of our work force are apprentices,” said Andy.

“It is because of this commitment to encouraging new talent that we identified a significant lack of formal training and emerging talent in the industry and established T3 Training & Development with the vision of creating a centre of excellence for the Architect, Engineering and Construction sectors.

“Our portfolio of apprenticeship training includes design and draughting, digital engineering and project controls and we also offer short training courses in revit, rc detailing, structural detailing and autocad.”

T3 Training and Development is currently delivering to 30 apprentices in its first full year and has achieved ROATP status.

Companies who have taken apprentices on through T3 Training & Development include Laing O’Rourke, Kier and FP McCann.
